Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst Game Review

A well crafted search and find puzzler.
by Vincent Mysliwiec

In this installment of Mystery Case Files you assume the role of Master Detective on a case to unravel the mysterious story behind Ravenhearst Manor. Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst is a well crafted search and find game with a quality story and game progression. Each scene is a location at Ravenhearst Manor with a multitude of oddly placed items that can be found. Finding designated items rewards the player with pages in a diary that progresses the story and unlocks more rooms of the manor.

The style of gameplay is very close to an older game mechanic captured in the child?s magazine, Highlights. But the major difference between the two is that in Mystery Case Files many items are oddly placed throughout the scene where in Highlights only the particular items you a searching for are out of place. This design keeps the game replay value high by simply changing the list of things to find but also makes finding those items more difficult as so many things are out of place. Thank goodness they include a hint button.

MCF: Ravenhearst, also includes other minigames used when unlocking rooms or piecing together the pages in the diary.

The interface is well polished with the music and ambient sounds adding to the mood of Ravenhearst Manor.

Overall, MCF: Ravenhearst is a quality search and find game.
